I, too, had heard that it can take three months for your body to return to normal after taking the pill for many years, but I also had more than one set of friends who got pregnant the first month after stopping the pill. Go figure....Shelleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08309531781457230910noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2808830305872285145.post-27337576651817542722013-04-24T12:20:41.189-07:002013-04-24T12:20:41.189-07:00stories like this make me look back and laugh at t...stories like this make me look back and laugh at the month that we went off teh pil but used condoms, since I was still drinking and just trying to regulate my cycle. some days I can laugh about it! I can't believe I've never heard it before and I am so going to use it with one of my patients!
Regarding your friend: If she were to pursue any testing, I would suggest an Anti-Mulleran hormone level and semen analysis, both can identify any game changing issues.
At the fertility conference I attended last year, one RE discussed that uterine anomalies are often identified after failed IVFs and an HSG has a 38% false negative rate, and he raised the issue of routinely performing a hysteroscopy prior to IVF. I know others who also have had success doing an endometrial biopsy prior to transfer. jAllenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06282963869813954232noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2808830305872285145.post-55028085314927200852013-04-23T18:30:38.722-07:002013-04-23T18:30:38.722-07:00I can at least say that there's not much I cou...I can at least say that there's not much I could have done differently. M and I got married when I was already 35 and my periods had started getting wonky. I'm pretty sure that if we had started TTC even from our first date things wouldn't have been that much different as I was on my year-long period absence after stopping BC. At least that's one thing I don't have to blame myself for.Aramishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12275274008426941898noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2808830305872285145.post-81583055817028925722013-04-23T08:02:08.111-07:002013-04-23T08:02:08.111-07:00My doctor told us to use protection for the first ...My doctor told us to use protection for the first month after stopping birth control because if we did get pregnant, we would likely miscarry.

Just curious- was your patient going to keep the baby? I know that the baby wasn't in her timeline, but she was pretty lucky to get pregnant in the first place....I hope that she doesn't end the pregnancy and then have trouble getting pregnant in the future.

Friends of ours once said that there is no good time to have a kid. I used the rhythm method for about a year and never suspected a problem. Despite the fact that my Dad always had a joke: "You know what they call people who use the rhythm method? Parents!" Even now, I've done two cycles of IVF without having a hysteroscopy. Now my mind is running a mile a minute wondering if they will find something when I have it done. I've always assumed I was a fertile myrtle married to a seriously infertile man... Now I am wondering if there is more to our story.

My best friend is in a serious relationship, and will be 30 in September. She wants to wait until the "right time" to start TTC, and knows that by then she may experience some age-related and weight-related issues. Because of everything my husband and I have gone through, she wants to do some fertility testing soon to rule out any other underlying issues. I think that would be a good idea for any woman! It's better to know sooner rather than later if there are any issues.

This turned into a really long comment, I just really agree that the more you know, the better when it comes to infertility. Let me tell you, all those condoms were a waste of time. You are right, we all are in this huge learning process with our bodies.
